  Why Us?

Some clients come to Recovery Options to determine whether their substance use is really a “problem” and which, if any, treatment options may be most appropriate and desirable. Many of our clients have been unable to overcome their problem on their own or through standard substance abuse treatment programs. Still others come here because they recently completed inpatient treatment and want aftercare to help them continue their progress over the long term.

All of our clients come to us because they seek respectful, competent care that meets their individual needs.

Unique features of the treatment we offer:

  • Private, Totally Confidential - Our discreet office-based practice provides an ideal setting for men and women who want their treatment to remain strictly private and confidential.
  • Motivational, Not Confrontational - Our motivational treatment approach is designed to encourage and empower positive change. We focus on our clients’ strengths, not their weaknesses, and teach them how to mobilize their strengths to achieve lasting recovery.  We understand the frustration that people struggling with substance abuse and other addictive behaviors may face, and encourage them to work past these frustrations to achieve their individual treatment goals.
  • Choice - As our name implies, Recovery Options is about choice.  We offer a range of treatment options and respect our clients’ right to choose their own treatment goals.  Clients can choose individual therapy, group therapy, or a combination of both.
  • Flexible, Individualized Care – We recognize that clients with alcohol and drug problems are not all alike and that no single treatment approach works best for everyone. We work collaboratively with our clients to develop customized treatment plans that meet their individual needs throughout the different stages of treatment.
  • Recovery-Focused Psychotherapy - We address not only the alcohol and drug use itself, but also the emotional and psychological issues (e.g., self-esteem, intimacy, sexuality, assertiveness, anger) that are intertwined with the addiction-- as well as psychiatric problems such as depression, anxiety, and other mood disorders.
  • Our Integrative Approach - Blending the best practices of addiction counseling and recovery-focused psychotherapy, our Integrative Treatment Approach facilitates both behavioral and emotional change to help prevent relapse, improve functioning, and enhance life satisfaction.
  • Treatment by Addiction Psychologists – We are a group of psychologists and other psychotherapists who specialize in treating substance abuse and related mental health problems, as well as the core emotional and psychological issues that often underlie addictive behaviors.
  • AA Involvement:  Encouraged, Not Mandated – We encourage and support our patients’ involvement in AA and other 12-step programs and routinely provide interested newcomers with “mentors” who will gladly help them get started on the road to recovery.  We recognize, however, that 12-step programs are not for everyone and that AA is not the one and only pathway to recovery, so we do not require patients to attend self-help meetings as part of their treatment.
  • Special Treatment for Healthcare Professionals - We understand and respect the unique issues faced by medical caregivers struggling with their own addiction.  For over three decades, Dr. Washton has continued to provide totally confidential treatment that addresses the special needs of addicted physicians, pharmacists, dentists, nurses, physician assistants, podiatrists, psychologists and other healthcare professionals.
